Polaris F9550 Sport Review (2026)

The only robot with a real handheld remote control.

4.4/5
| Updated March 2026 | Tested in real pools
🏆 PoolBotLab Verdict

The Polaris F9550 Sport is the best robot for large in-ground pools with complex shapes or heavy debris loads. The handheld remote lets you manually direct it into problem spots, the 4WD system handles irregular pool shapes, and the Vortex vacuum intake handles large debris like leaves and acorns that clog other robots.

Full Review

The F9550's unique selling point is the handheld remote control. No other robot at this price offers it. You can pick up the remote and manually drive the robot into a corner it missed, steer it under the pool stairs, or run it over a spot you want rescoured. For pool owners who've experienced the frustration of a robot that systematically avoids one corner, this is genuinely valuable.

The 4-wheel drive system is the other major differentiator for large or irregular pools. Where robots with 2-drive navigation systems struggle in pools with steps, ledges, or unusual shapes, the F9550's motion-sensing 4WD navigates these obstacles more reliably.

The Vortex vacuum technology is optimized for large debris — leaves, acorns, small twigs — that can overwhelm the smaller filter baskets on Dolphin units. If your pool is under trees, the F9550 handles the leaf load significantly better than any Dolphin robot we tested.

The tradeoffs: the eFill canister bag filter is less convenient to clean than Dolphin's top-load cartridge, and at 3 hours per cycle it takes longer. These are manageable complaints for what you get in return.
